HISTORY OF JUDAH TABERNACLE

On February 4, 2005, twelve people gathered together in the home of Rev. Cedric Robinson, and his wife, Minister Tonya Robinson, to discuss the call of God on his and her life. After considering the obstacles, and overcoming them by faith, the twelve decided to establish a congregation that pursued the will of God. The twelve – Patrick Baker, Sherita Baker, Sandra Brooks, Denise Caldwell, Kyle Kennedy, Cheryl Proche, Sharon Ridgell, Kevyn Robinson, Tonya Robinson, Velton Robinson, Verna Smith, and Verna Snedacar – decided to move forward and agreed to establish a new Church that evening. The House of Judah was the first suggestion, but it was agreed upon for the Church to be known as Judah Tabernacle (which means “Praise where God dwells”).

The first service was held February 20, 2005 in the home of Rev. Cedric and Tonya Robinson with 20 people in attendance. Pastor Robinson preached from Matthew 11:12-22, from the subject “By Faith.” The following Sunday, February 27, 2005 services were held in the Upper Room Christian Entertainment Complex, located at 23821 Grand River, with 50 in attendance. Judah Tabernacle has continued to advance, with God adding to the Church new members each week. On August 7, 2005, the first Sunday night, Pastor Robinson baptized two candidates, 11 year old Rashon Scruggs and Mr. Myron Puryear, at Peace and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, where Herbert B. Robinson, Jr. is Pastor.

Bible study was immediately put into place after the church was established. Pastor Robinson patterned the study to reflect the early church found in the book of Acts. Members traveled from house to house, worshipping, praising, and studying the word of God, as they experienced the outpouring of God’s Spirit and power. Intercessory Prayer and Bible study were bi-weekly sessions held in the homes of its members, but because of the explosive growth are now held weekly in the Upper Room and is very instrumental in contributing to the spiritual growth of the church.
